MAIL ORDER SUCCESS SECRETS

No other business opportunity seems so easy and profitable or attracts so many new people than that of selling products by mail order. Most people fail because they think it is simple and they lack the knowledge to be successful.

The first step to success is to create your own product. If you purchase products to sell, the percentage of markup may not be sufficient to make a profit in mail order. I almost always multiply my cost by 10 to determine my minimum selling price. For example, if a book costs you $2 to publish, it should sell for at least $20. This is not unreasonable mark-up for mail order sales.

Next, determine if your product has mass appeal. It should be something you can produce for very little money but offers the potential customer a real value. I have discovered that the best products to sell are "HOW-TO" information reports, books, manuals, videos and cassette tapes. Don't expect to make big money by selling other peoples' informational product. You will not have the markup to survive very long in the competitive mail order business.

Selling your product is not difficult but you must let the world know what you have for sale. Classified ads are inexpensive and can be very profitable. Look at successful classified ads and then create you own original copy. Place an ad in magazines like Popular Mechanics or Popular Science to test your products appeal. Always offer free information and follow up with a sales letter, order form and return envelope. Never try to sell anything except the free information or free report with a classified ad.

It is almost impossible to make a living selling just one product. Once you have a customer, send them additional flyers, catalogs, circular's or brochures. You simply must have a variety of products to sell if you intend to prosper in the mail order business. Here is where you can profit by selling other peoples' "How-To" information. Once you sell your primary product it will be profitable to follow-up with products that have a smaller markup. Look at the methods used by successful mail order operators and duplicate their techniques.

Once you have a profitable ad, keep expanding your advertising into other publications. Soon you may be spending $2,000 or more for advertising each month. You must reinvest most of our profits back into your business for a few months in order to have a profitable mail order business.

Always make it easy for your customer to order. Today, it is very important to have a merchant account. About 30% of our mail order business comes from Visa and MasterCard orders.

Remember, all your inquiries are very valuable. In fact, these names can be easily rented to other mail order operators. The money earned can pay all your advertising costs. This extra income will give you a tremendous increase in profits.

It is important to offer a strong money back guarantee on all mail order products. A 90-day money back guarantee will help you make more sales than a 30-day guarantee.
